Through our Advocacy Committee, Trinity is member of this program to help stop hunger worldwide.
This fall Trinity will be participating in Bread for the World's annual Offering of Letters. The emphasis this year is on reforming U.S. foreign aid to better meet both 21st century challenges and the needs of poor and hungry people.
In the House of Representatives the bill is H.R. 2139 (Initiating Foreign Assistance Reform Act of 2009) and in the Senate is is S.1524 (Foreign Assistance Revitalization and Accountability Act).
The intent of the acts is to make foreign assistance more efficient, effective, and transparent and thus have a greater impact on poor and hungry people around the world. The act promotes global development, good governance, and the reduction of poverty and hunger.
While poverty-focused development assistance is less than one-half of 1 percent of the U.S. budget, the issues are complex and need to be addressed. Thereis information about the bills and the needs at Breaqd for the World's site, www.bread.org. Please read about the intent and the issues prior to our letter-writing.
